Compare Meze Audio Strada vs Grado Signature S750

The sound is widely praised for spaciousness, detail, musicality, and closed-back openness. The central tradeoff is tonal: some hear smooth balance, while others find the upper range too energetic and the lower mids too lean.

The S750 is consistently praised for exceptionally revealing, natural sound with strong musical engagement. Even the more critical takes on fit and hardware still describe the listening performance as a major strength.

Passive isolation is unusually strong for an audiophile headphone and works well in offices, homes, and travel. Performance depends on achieving a complete pad seal.

The open-back construction offers little practical isolation from noisy surroundings. It is better suited to quiet home listening than portable use in busy environments.

The closed cups keep music contained well at normal listening levels, making the Strada suitable around coworkers or family without broadcasting every track.

Sound leakage is an unavoidable downside of the open-back design and is serious enough to rule out many shared or public spaces. Quiet private listening is the intended environment.

The tonal balance is the most disputed part of the Strada. Some hear natural neutrality or gentle warmth, while others describe a U- or W-shaped response with lean lower mids and emphasized upper treble.

Reviewers who focused on tonal accuracy heard a lifelike, uncolored, and convincing balance with precise timbre. The S750 favors faithful presentation over added warmth or bass emphasis.

The Strada creates convincing depth, width, and placement for a closed-back design. Imaging is usually engaging and realistic, though a minority finds it diffuse, shallow, or less precise than top technical rivals.

With the right source, the S750 can sound deeply immersive as well as analytical. Its vivid vocals, speed, and spacious presentation can make well-recorded music feel immediate and involving.

An unusually airy, wide stage is one of the clearest strengths for a closed-back headphone. Its exact depth and scale remain recording-dependent, and a few listeners hear a more intimate presentation.

A broad, open soundstage is one of the S750’s defining strengths, often described as huge, airy, lifelike, or extending well beyond the earcups. One reviewer found the stage less expansive, but still accurate and breathable.

Bass impressions vary with seal, source, and taste. Many hear deep, controlled sub-bass with satisfying punch, while others want more upper-bass weight, speed, or consistency.

Bass is generally tight, articulate, and well controlled rather than boosted for impact. Most reviewers call it lean or restrained for bass-heavy music, though one heard unusually deep, powerful sub-bass when the recording demanded it.

Two useful cables, adapters, a protective case, and a cable pouch form a complete, high-quality package with little obviously missing.

The package is sparse for the asking price. Reviewers specifically criticized the lack of a case and the absence of multiple cable choices in the box.

Light weight, strong isolation, and a protective case suit travel well. Its broad nonfolding shape, bulky case, and long cable keep it from being truly compact.

These are poor travel headphones: the open-back leakage, substantial weight, and insecure movement reported by some listeners work against commuting. Their strengths are much better suited to stationary home listening.

The Strada has a broad, conspicuous silhouette rather than a discreet profile. Its oversized cups and generous padding are especially noticeable on smaller heads.

The S750 keeps Grado’s recognizable identity while cleaning up the presentation into a more modern, minimalist profile. The look is distinctive without becoming ornate.

The freely rotating cups aid positioning, but one listener found them too loose and awkward to align quickly with one hand.

The limited 105-degree cup rotation is presented as a sensible durability choice, preserving useful flexibility while reducing wear. It favors controlled movement rather than full swivel freedom.

Dynamic headroom and low distortion preserve clarity at elevated levels, although treble-sensitive material can become more aggressive as volume rises.

High-volume behavior is mixed: some listeners heard clean, glare-free treble at significant levels, while another found the brightness increasingly harsh as volume rose. The result appears especially dependent on recording quality and treble sensitivity.

The large, soft magnetic pads support comfort and sealing well. Their synthetic-leather surface can become warm for some listeners during extended use.

The new B cushions improve comfort for some listeners but are strongly fit-dependent. They can distribute pressure well, yet the flat on-ear foam felt poorly fitting or uncomfortable to others.

Flagship-derived materials, hand finishing, wood cups, and precise hardware make the Strada look and feel more expensive than its price. Its unusually light frame can briefly seem less substantial until handled closely.

The aluminum construction can feel appropriately premium, but luxury impressions are not unanimous. One reviewer thought the materials justified the positioning, while another said the pads and headband did not feel luxurious at all.

The two braided cables are generally considered well made and useful, especially with both 3.5mm and 4.4mm terminations. A few listeners report shape memory, microphonics, or a finish that feels modest for the price.

The Signature Gold cable is lighter and softer than older Grado designs, but cable ergonomics remain divisive. Critics still found it heavy, stiff, or awkwardly sized for common listening setups.

Vocals and instruments are often praised for clarity, articulation, and natural timbre. Dissenting listeners hear a recessed lower midrange, thin male vocals, or an occasionally shouty upper-mid emphasis.

Midrange performance is a standout across the board, with vocals described as vivid, tangible, crisp, and highly intelligible. Acoustic instruments also benefit from strong presence and clean articulation.

The broad, ventilated headband spreads pressure evenly and helps prevent hot spots, making its relatively light padding work better than expected.

Extra headband padding is generally seen as a meaningful improvement over older Grados. Most reports are positive, but one reviewer still found the padding meager and insufficient for the price.

Layering and separation are clear strengths, giving instruments distinct space even in busy arrangements. A few listeners hear less depth or coherence when the treble dominates.

Complex mixes stay exceptionally easy to untangle, with instruments and voices given clear space and localization. Dense orchestral, jazz, and rock passages remain layered rather than collapsing together.

The light chassis travels better than its size suggests, but the nonfolding frame and large case take up considerable bag space.

Practical portability is poor despite the detachable cable. Open-back leakage, weight, and the lack of suitability for noisy environments keep the S750 focused on stationary listening.

The broader modular design allows major wear components to be replaced rather than forcing disposal of the entire headphone.

Owners can swap the stock B cushions for other compatible Grado pad shapes to change fit. That flexibility is useful for listeners who do not get along with the default on-ear geometry.

The Strada is easy to drive, yet many listeners hear tighter bass, smoother treble, and greater refinement from better-matched amplification. Source synergy matters more than raw power alone.

The S750 is not uniformly source-agnostic: several reviewers heard clear gains with capable amplification, while one pairing lost clarity and openness. Good amplification can unlock more resolution, but system matching matters.

Treble opinions are sharply divided. Many hear airy detail, smooth extension, and fatigue-free sparkle, while others report 4–7kHz peaks, glare, or long-session fatigue.

Treble is detailed, airy, and extended, but opinions depend on tolerance for brightness. Several reviewers found it controlled and clean, while others warned that hot recordings or louder listening can make the upper range harsh.

Standard dual 3.5mm cup connections make cable replacement and third-party upgrades simple, secure, and widely compatible.

Detachable mini-XLR cabling is widely treated as a major Grado improvement. Swappable lengths and balanced terminations make the S750 far easier to adapt to different amplifiers and listening positions.

Magnetic pads detach and reinstall quickly without tools, simplifying cleaning, replacement, and long-term upkeep.

The stock B cushions are not the only fit option. Compatibility with Grado G, F, and L cushions gives owners a practical route to change how the S750 sits on the head.

The fit is secure for many users and suitable for walking, but cup angle and head size can make seal and positioning fussy for others.

Stability depends heavily on fit and movement. The reinforced hardware is described as secure, but one wearer found the headphones would not stay put while moving their head at a desk.

Most listeners find the Strada engaging, refined, and easy to live with, while a smaller group is frustrated by tonal thinness or treble peaks. Satisfaction depends heavily on fit and sound preference.

Overall satisfaction is high because the S750 repeatedly delivers memorable, engaging sound. The strongest reservations center on physical comfort and premium-price ergonomics rather than the core audio performance.

The sliding mechanism often feels smooth, quiet, and refined, but adjustment range is inconsistent across head sizes. Small heads can remain too loose, while some users want detents or more friction.

The familiar friction-rod headband adjustment works effectively, but its presentation divides opinion. One reviewer preferred its simple function to ornate mechanisms, while another thought it felt crude for the price.

The Strada earns broad recommendation for its craftsmanship, comfort, isolation, and spacious presentation. It is not a universal pick: treble-sensitive listeners and people with smaller heads should audition before buying.

Recommendations are strong for dedicated audiophile use, especially for listeners who prize detail, openness, and spatial precision. Fit, source matching, and price make an audition advisable before buying.

Dual 3.5mm earcup inputs, 3.5mm and balanced 4.4mm cables, and an adapter make the wired setup flexible across portable and desktop gear.

Mini-XLR connections and optional cable lengths or balanced terminations give the S750 unusually flexible wired connectivity. Reviewers liked being able to tailor the cable setup to different sources and room layouts.

Its musical performance and adaptability earned a High Nines award from one publication.

One publication gave the S750 a Product of the Year Award before its full review, reflecting unusually strong enthusiasm for its sonic performance. That recognition reinforces how highly its sound was regarded there.

Ventilated headband padding and Alcantara-lined pads limit heat better than many closed-backs. Synthetic contact surfaces can still grow warm in long or hot sessions.

The raw foam pads can hold noticeable body heat. That may become uncomfortable during warmer or more active use, even though the headphone is primarily intended for stationary listening.

Clamp is usually secure and gently judged, holding the seal without creating a vise-like squeeze. A few heads may find it firmer or less adaptable than expected.

Clamp is inconsistent across head shapes rather than universally comfortable. One reviewer found it overzealous and tiring, another described the design as firm, while another thought the fit was too loose.

Low weight, soft memory-foam pads, and well-distributed pressure make long sessions a major strength. The key exception is fit: smaller heads may struggle even at the minimum adjustment.

Long-session comfort is the biggest point of disagreement. Some listeners wore the S750 for hours comfortably, while others found the on-ear pressure, foam, weight, or fit tiring within a short period.

The roughly 300–330g build feels notably light for its size and materials, reducing neck and head fatigue during extended listening.

At about 460 g, the S750 is lighter than some Signature siblings but still feels heavy to several reviewers. The reduced mass helps versus larger models, yet weight can undermine stability and long-session comfort.

The materials and modular construction inspire confidence that the Strada is built for long ownership rather than short replacement cycles.

The restrained swivel range and reinforced metal hardware are designed to reduce wear over time. Reviewers discussing the assembly viewed it as rugged and well suited to regular use.

Macassar ebony and metallic green give the Strada a distinctive, luxurious identity. The craftsmanship is widely admired, but the bold colorway is unmistakably polarizing.

The industrial Grado look remains distinctive, with several reviewers praising its retro, minimalist, or elegant execution. A dissenting view felt the physical appearance did not match the premium price.

The magnesium frame, ebony cups, precise assembly, and premium finish draw near-universal praise. Only isolated adjustment, creaking, or cable-connector quirks interrupt an otherwise exceptional construction story.

Build quality is usually a strength, thanks to aluminum construction, solid hardware, and careful finishing. Most reviewers describe it as rugged or beautifully built, although one felt some headband details looked and felt cheaper than expected.

Most consider $799 compelling for the flagship-like chassis, accessories, serviceability, and spacious sound. Buyers who dislike the tuning may see less value, especially when cheaper or more neutral alternatives exist.

Value depends on what you prioritize: $1,695 is repeatedly called expensive, yet several reviewers think the sonic performance competes above its price class. Buyers paying for comfort, accessories, or luxury finish may find the equation less convincing.

EQ can tame upper-treble energy, add lower-mid body, or improve bass balance. For the most treble-sensitive listener, correction may require narrower and more deliberate filters rather than one broad adjustment.

The S750 responds well to external EQ, with one reviewer adding low-end weight through Roon without damaging speed or articulation. That makes subtle tonal correction more viable than on some earlier Grados.

The standard 3.5mm connection is straightforward and plug-and-play with compatible computers and portable devices.

The rigid case protects the headphones well and feels appropriately premium, although its generous size is less convenient for light travel.

Measured and perceived channel balance is consistently excellent, with only minor unit-level deviations reported.

Fine detail retrieval is one of the most consistent strengths, revealing low-level textures, room cues, vocal nuances, and layers in familiar recordings. The presentation is highly informative without always becoming clinical.

Soft pads maintain comfort and a useful seal with thin-framed glasses, avoiding the pinching some closed-backs create.

Imaging is exceptionally precise, with stable placement and clear localization across the stage. Reviewers repeatedly describe instruments and voices as easy to position in a convincing three-dimensional space.

Standard analog connections let the Strada work easily across computers, home audio gear, consoles, and handheld gaming devices.

Screwed, modular construction, magnetic pads, and replaceable parts make repairability a standout advantage. The Strada is designed to be maintained instead of discarded.

High sensitivity provides ample loudness from portable sources, with enough headroom for demanding recordings without needing a large desktop amplifier.

With a wired Xbox setup, the Strada delivers immersive directional cues and impactful game audio that one listener described as a game changer.

The S750 handles both large dynamic swings and subtle microdynamics with unusual speed and control. Rhythm, transient attacks, and changing intensity stay composed even in dense music.

Movement noise is generally low, though isolated units produced mild creaking or rattling when the cups rotated.

Wide staging, strong positional cues, isolation, and impactful low frequencies make the Strada highly effective for games and films. Competitive players may still prefer sharper imaging or a less treble-forward presentation.

The joints and moving hardware feel precise, solid, and engineered for long-term use rather than looseness or flex.

The passive wired design is refreshingly simple: connect the appropriate cable and start listening without apps, pairing, or configuration.
