Compare Black & Decker dustbuster Cordless Handheld Vacuum, HHVI315JO42 vs Black+Decker Dustbuster Cordless Hand Vacuum

Ease of use is consistently praised, especially the simple operation, light feel, and ability to reach tight spots.

Ease of use was a strength overall, especially for quick cleanups, one-handed operation, and simple handling.

Onboard attachment storage is a weakness because the small accessories are easier to lose without built-in storage.

Onboard tool storage was praised because the crevice tool and brush store directly on the base.

Large debris handling is a strength, with the wider opening helping bigger pieces pass through without clogging.

Clogging was a clear concern in one review because the filter clogged after testing.

Carpet hair pickup is context-dependent: the brush can lift embedded hair, but larger hairy areas require more effort.

Carpet hair pickup was poor in the Homes & Gardens pet-shelter test, where hair on a soft chair did not move.

Runtime is a weakness versus stronger competitors, ranging from below-average to much lower than the top picks.

Runtime was adequate for small messes in one hands-on review, which found 11 minutes plenty for quick cleanups.

Hard-floor debris pickup is praised, especially for bare-floor debris and bigger snack-like pieces.

Large hard-floor debris results were mixed, with strong grits and rice pickup in hands-on reviews but lab criticism that exhaust could blow debris around.

Storage is helped by the wall-mount docking station, though attachment storage remains separate.

Storage was a strength in hands-on testing because the slim body and dock made it easy to keep in tight spaces.

Overall opinion is favorable for a budget handheld, with reviewers valuing its practical performance, low cost, and lightweight power despite limitations.

Overall opinion was mixed, ranging from Consumer Reports' middling rating to a very positive apartment-cleanup experience and a more qualified Homes & Gardens verdict.

Opinions on the bin are split: its size is praised, but the traditional two-hand emptying design can be dusty.

The bin earned positive handling comments because reviewers described it as easy to empty or twist off.

Groove and crevice pickup is a standout, with the crevice tool removing nearly everything from rubber mat grooves.

Crevice and tight-space pickup was positive overall, especially for cracks between shelves and large debris in tight spaces.

Emptying ranges from convenient to messy: some reviewers find cleanup easy, while others say the filter and bin leave hands dusty.

Emptying and mess control was generally positive, including easy emptying and a base that helped prevent stray particles from spilling out.

Attachments are useful for basic cleanup, but reviewers note the set is simple and lacks a powered brush or brush-extension flexibility.

Attachments helped reduce clutter in one review, while another review criticized the fit because the tools could fall out during use.

Filtration is a major drawback, with fine dust passing through or exhausting out the back in dirty-use tests.

Filtration evidence was negative, centered on a filter that could clog easily rather than high-grade dust containment.

Loose hair on hard surfaces is handled decently, helped by the crevice tool and suction.

Hard-floor hair pickup was positive in the Homes & Gardens review, which saw dust and hair pulled into the nozzle from a distance.

Handling is strong thanks to the compact design, light weight, and easy movement into tight spaces.

Handling was positive in the Homes & Gardens review because the long handle and switch allowed one-handed use.

Small-space suitability is strong because the handheld is compact enough for cars, furniture gaps, and tight spots.

Small-space suitability was positive because the vacuum was recommended for small spaces and tight storage.

Tool changes are described as simple and straightforward during setup and attachment use.

Tool changes were praised when the expandable nozzle avoided swapping heads, but another review found add-on tools could fall out during cleaning.

Pet performance is mixed: one lab calls it top-notch for pet hair, while another says overall pet-hair performance remains mediocre.

Pet-hair results depended heavily on surface: lab evidence was favorable and one reviewer used it for quick pet-hair cleanups, but another found embedded hair on a soft chair did not move.

Maintenance is somewhat messy because the paper filter traps hair and fine dust can pass through or dirty the exhaust path.

Maintenance was a concern because one review expected regular filter cleaning after clogging.

Above-floor cleanup is useful for upholstery, cushions, and car seats, though one review says debris may take several passes.

Above-floor results split sharply, from excellent shelf cleanup in one review to poor upholstery performance in another.

Versatility is good for everyday larger messes and kids' snacks, but less convincing for fine dust and heavy pet hair.

Versatility was split: one review praised versatile suction for compact cleanups, while another said it did not work well as an all-round cleaner.

Heavy-duty suitability is limited because fine dirt and dust from very dirty areas can overwhelm the filter and exhaust path.

Heavy-duty suitability was weak because the vacuum did not impress as an all-round cleaner.

Reviewers see it as competitively strong for the price, though one budget roundup says it is average rather than exceptional.

Comparative performance was weak because two reviews pointed to other handheld vacuums as better options.

Noise impressions are mostly favorable to average: one lab review calls it really quiet, while another says it is typical for handheld vacuums.

Noise feedback split sharply, with Consumer Reports calling the unit pretty quiet while Homes & Gardens found it incredibly loud for its size.

Edge pickup is a relative limitation; Consumer Reports says it is less effective at cleaning edges.

Edge and baseboard performance was moderate to favorable: Consumer Reports rated edge cleaning better, while Homes & Gardens found it handled tight spaces but missed some dust.

Suction earns strong praise across reviews, especially for a compact budget handheld handling crumbs, cereal, dirt, and everyday debris.

Suction drew sharply different judgments: one hands-on review found it surprisingly strong for tiny debris, while another said it was not very powerful overall despite useful hard-floor suction.

Exhaust blowback is a recurring weakness: one source says the strong exhaust has limited impact, while another saw dust shoot out the back.

Airflow blowback was a repeated downside, with lab testing and hands-on use both noting overly strong exhaust or outward airflow.

Value is one of the strongest themes, with reviewers repeatedly tying its appeal to low price and budget positioning.

Value was mixed: one review pointed to a same-brand better alternative at an equal price, while another still called this model a great affordable option.

Setup is described as simple and straightforward, especially when selecting and installing the included attachments.

Setup evidence was positive, with one reviewer saying setup mainly involved charging the vacuum before use.

Charging feedback is weak: reviewers mention average battery life, no charge indicator, and the need to plug the unit in rather than drop it on a base.

Battery and charging were mixed: one reviewer loved that it stayed charged, while another disliked not knowing when it was fully charged.

One reviewer liked the blue, white, and gray finish and described the unit as visually appealing up close.

Design was praised as sleek, slim, and straightforward rather than bulky or visually intrusive.

The compact body helps it reach between furniture and into cars, giving it a favorable low-profile feel.

Low-profile design evidence was positive because the slim, straightforward body helped the vacuum fit neatly into home spaces.

Longevity evidence is positive, with repeat testing still finding the model impressive after years.

Longevity evidence was limited but positive, tied to the washable filter being described as prolonging the device lifespan.

Controls and handling are mixed: the grip feels comfortable, but the lack of charging status makes the interface less informative.

Controls were simple but limited: the on/off operation is easy, but the vacuum lacks suction modes.

Area-rug handling was poor in one review because a crumb was pushed deeper into the rug fabric.

Carpet debris pickup is useful but not effortless; one review calls it very good, while another says it takes several passes.

General carpet evidence was poor, with the closest carpet-pickup evidence describing the vacuum as mostly incapable on carpets, rugs, and upholstery.

Cordless convenience was praised when paired with a docking station that keeps the vacuum charged and easy to locate.

Hair removal after cleaning can be tedious because hair catches in the bristles.

Tangle resistance is limited because hair catches in the bristle attachment after use.

Fine debris pickup was strong on hard floors and shelves in hands-on reviews, especially for tiny grains, dust, and hair.

The wide mouth makes snack cleanup useful for kid messes, which one reviewer calls a big plus.

Weight is a major strength, with multiple reviewers praising how light the vacuum feels compared with alternatives.

Long-term product confidence is positive, with one review calling its performance reliable year after year.

Nozzle design was one of the better-supported positives, with praise for adjustable width and a wider pull-out nozzle.

Reliability evidence is positive, centered on year-after-year performance consistency.
