Compare Shark Rotator Lift-Away Vacuum vs Kenmore Bagless Upright Vacuum Lift

Ease of use was often positive for basic vacuuming and conversion, but one critical review said it needed babysitting.

Ease of use was a strong positive, with reviewers praising easier controls, responsive features, and straightforward handling.

High-pile performance was a weak spot in the limited evidence, especially cereal pickup.

High-pile carpet evidence was limited to one hands-on review but positive for removing cat hair and ingrained dirt.

Hard-floor sealing evidence was limited but very positive for the DuoClean Pro floorhead.

The floorhead seal was a weakness in the DU5092 review because large front gates let in more air and reduced the seal.

Upright stability drew concerns when using tools, with reviewers noting tipping or falling in some above-floor setups.

Storage received a positive mention from one reviewer who said putting it away was simple.

Crevice and groove pickup ranged from perfect in some DuoClean tests to below average in other Rotator Pet evaluations.

Crevice pickup was a noted weakness in the DU5092 review, scoring below average alongside unsealed suction.

Hair-wrap resistance was one of the strongest recurring positives, though older Rotator testing showed tangling.

Hair-wrap resistance was split: one review said the Kenmore did poorly with hair tangles, while another DU5092 review praised the hair Eliminator nozzle.

Large hard-floor debris results were mixed: DuoClean designs excelled, while older or non-DuoClean tests struggled with cereal, leaves, or extra-large debris.

Large-debris intake scored strongly because reviewers praised hardwood pickup and large front gates for debris other vacuums may miss.

Cord-management evidence was limited and negative, focused on the cord getting in the way.

Cord management was a mild drawback because one reviewer noted the cord must be wrapped manually.

Innovation stood out in anti-tangle roller design, which reviewers framed as ahead of many competitors.

Innovation evidence was limited but positive where sealed filtration was described as rare in the price range.

Under-furniture reach was generally positive thanks to low-profile heads or Lift-Away setups, within depth limits.

Under-furniture performance was mixed: Lift Away helped in one comparison, but multiple reviews said the main head was too big for beds.

Pet-hair performance was one of the clearest positives, especially on upholstery, carpets, and anti-tangle tests.

Pet-oriented evidence was mostly positive: reviewers liked the pet tool, brush roll, and pet-hair cleaning ability, though separate tangle evidence showed limits.

Hose reach ranged from very beneficial and long to too short in some Lift-Away or tool-use scenarios.

Reach was praised through the 10-foot wand and a comparison noting the wand was longer than a Shark model.

Weight was one of the most context-dependent issues: some found it light for an upright, while others found it heavy.

Weight evidence was mixed: several reviews found it heavy or cumbersome versus cordless models, while one review called 14 pounds below average and another called it lightweight.

Carpet hair pickup was consistently strong across pet and human hair tests.

LED lighting was consistently useful in reviews, helping illuminate dark spots or missed debris.

Emptying was generally easy, but some reviewers noted smaller bins or frequent emptying.

Emptying and mess control were repeatedly praised for easy canister removal, one-button emptying, and simple opening.

Bin feedback was mixed by variant: some reviewers liked large or easy-empty bins, while others found smaller bins filling quickly.

The bin was described as large enough and easy to open, supporting solid scores for everyday debris handling.

Low-pile and general carpet pickup was usually good to excellent, with one critic sharply disagreeing on carpet cleaning.

Low-pile carpet pickup was generally strong, including effective brush-roll comments, 98 percent pickup, and hands-on praise.

Filtration scored strongly because reviewers repeatedly cited sealed HEPA systems and successful fog/smoke containment.

Filtration received strong marks across reviews, with smoke tests passing well and HEPA or sealed-air-path comments tied to dust containment.

Maintenance evidence was mixed: washable filters and anti-tangle brushes helped, but DuoClean rollers and filters still needed care.

Maintenance requirements were a moderate drawback because one review said the filter needs monthly cleaning to keep performance.

Attachment coverage was often praised for versatility, though several reviewers found some brushes basic, stiff, or missing.

Attachments were viewed positively when reviewers saw the pet tool pick up hair, called the attachment set useful, or described the HandiMate as good for upholstery and tight areas.

Fine hard-floor pickup was often strong, especially pollen, sugar, sand/sawdust, and soft-roller dusting; one flour test underperformed.

Hard-floor fine pickup was strong across reviews, with hardwood performance, 98 percent overall pickup, and fine-debris praise.

Above-floor and upholstery cleaning was a strength with pet tools, though some reviewers found tool use awkward or brushes small.

Above-floor and upholstery cleaning scored well through praise for ceiling reach, pet-hair cleaning on furniture and stairs, and sofa cleaning.

Hair-channel evidence was limited but negative, with clogs at the dustbin/hose or roller area.

Hair-removal channel issues were clearly negative in one pet-hair comparison where hair stuck on the rollers.

Cord length varied by model; 30-foot cords were praised, while 25-foot cords were repeatedly criticized.

Cord length was mostly positive at 30 feet, but one review noted some users would prefer longer cords for larger spaces.

Maneuverability was mostly praised for swivel steering, with a few stiffness and handling caveats.

Maneuverability was generally praised, with swivel steering and easy direction changes highlighted across multiple reviews.

Medium-pile carpet evidence was strong overall, including deep-clean scores near premium models.

Medium-carpet pickup scored strongly in lab-style tests, including 98 percent overall pickup and a 100 percent carpet deep-clean result.

Debris illumination was usually positive where LEDs were discussed as helping visibility.

Debris illumination was positive in the DU5092 review, where LED lights were said to help reveal debris that might otherwise be missed.

Heavy-duty suitability was supported by large-mess handling, strong power, and sturdy or professional build impressions.

Heavy-duty suitability was supported by a reviewer saying homes with lots of carpet, kids, or pets may need a heavier corded option like this.

Tool and handle changes were generally described as easy, with clear releases and detachable parts.

Tool and release actions were praised when reviewers noted one-button canister emptying and an easy switch between crevice and brush tool modes.

Overall opinion leaned positive for value, suction, and versatility, but not unanimous due to weight, carpet, and reliability concerns.

Overall opinion was mostly favorable, with several strong recommendations or 'impressive' conclusions, offset by one strongly negative owner review.

Versatility was a central strength thanks to upright, canister/lift-away, tools, and multiple cleaning modes, despite powered-lift-away caveats.

Versatility was one of the strongest themes, supported by lift-up use, tools, reach, upholstery cleaning, and multi-surface performance.

Ownership costs looked favorable where washable filters reduced replacement needs.

Ongoing ownership cost evidence was negative in one review because replacement filters were described as expensive.

Edge and baseboard cleaning was consistently praised in the reviews that tested it.

Edge cleaning received a moderate score because the head was said to work okay rather than exceptionally along edges.

Comparative evidence was mixed: the Rotator often won on value but sometimes trailed premium Shark, Dyson, or Electrolux models.

Comparative evidence was favorable overall, including better hardwood value versus a cheaper model and advantages over a Shark comparison, though not every comparison was a win.

Noise was usually average to slightly loud; a few sources called it fairly quiet, but several measured around 78-80 dB.

Noise was a consistent caveat: reviewers measured or described it as noisy, louder than a Shark comparison model, or noisy on higher suction settings.

Reviewers generally praised suction and real-world cleaning, with some noting raw airflow was not always best-in-class.

Reviewers repeatedly measured or described strong suction and airflow, including 22 kPa results and above-average head airflow, with one owner also praising how much it pulled from carpet.

Stair cleaning benefited from hoses, lift-away pods, and pet tools, though one review found the process awkward.

Stair use was rated positively where Lift Away technology made stair cleaning easier.

Durability evidence split sharply, from sturdy, built-to-last impressions to one critical warning about longevity.

One negative owner review reported early motor failure, making longevity a serious concern in that review.

Low-profile performance was generally good for under-furniture access, but not universal.

Low-profile design scored poorly because multiple reviews said the main head was too large to fit under a bed.

Lift-away and handheld convertibility was a major theme, but non-powered Lift-Away limited some variants.

The detachable canister/lift-up format was treated as a useful convertible cleaning design in the DU5092 review.

Build quality varied by review and model, ranging from sturdy construction to complaints about newer internal build quality.

Build impressions were split between well-built praise in test reviews and severe owner complaints about cracking and broken parts.

Floorhead evidence split between strong DuoClean large-debris pickup and criticism of front-roller airflow or agitation.

Floorhead design was mostly positive because reviewers linked it to strong debris pickup and deep cleaning, while acknowledging a trade-off in seal.

Warranty and support evidence was mixed, with longer warranties praised but one reviewer warning about warranty limitations.

Reliability evidence was mixed: professional-style reviews disliked the shorter warranty, while one owner reported the vacuum would not power on.

Value was often a strength, especially versus pricier competitors, though some newer variants were criticized as overpriced.

Most reviews framed it as a strong value for the price, but one owner review sharply disagreed after failures and filter costs.

Setup was described as quick and clear, with parts clicking into place and obvious red release buttons.

Setup was praised in one hands-on review as very easy.

Controls were usually praised as intuitive, clearly marked, or conveniently placed.

Controls were praised for making surface changes easier and for better button placement than the comparison Shark.

Lift-up or Lift Away-style functionality was repeatedly praised for changing the vacuum into a more flexible room, stair, and above-floor tool.

Area-rug evidence was mixed to negative, including too much suction, awkward transitions, and one report of rug damage.

Clogging evidence was limited but negative, tied to debris getting stuck around the front roller.

Cordless convenience scored low because one reviewer explicitly found it less convenient than a cordless vacuum.

Hard-floor hair pickup was mixed: some tests were strong, but one CNET test found no pet-hair pickup with the brush off.

Kid-friendliness evidence was narrow but positive, tied to larger cereal-type debris cleanup for parents.

Odor control was seen as useful when present, but scent longevity disappointed in one long-term home test.

Onboard tool storage was a recurring limitation when attachments outnumbered storage spots.

Scratch evidence was mixed, with one review warning about brush use on hardwood and another seeing no soft-roller scratching.

The unadvertised self-propel pull was criticized as a strain or aggressive behavior on carpet.

Surface-safety evidence was mixed, with warnings about scratches from brush use or sharp wand edges.

Design impressions were modest: one review called it fine-looking, while another said color options were not a major draw.

Cyclone/no-loss suction evidence was limited but positive, tied to filters staying cleaner longer.
