Compare Sonos Move 2 Portable Speaker vs Marshall Kilburn III Portable Bluetooth Speaker

Wi-Fi playback drew positive marks, with reviewers describing smooth, reliable streaming and clean handoff back to Wi-Fi.

Wi-Fi streaming is a weakness because reviewers note there is no Wi-Fi connection and say its absence is a shame at this price.

Smart features were viewed as broad and useful, especially Sonos ecosystem expansion, voice control, and smart-home integration.

Smart features are limited overall; reviewers note the lack of Wi-Fi, voice control, and broader smart-speaker functions, though the simple music-first approach appeals to some.

Alexa and Sonos Voice Control were considered useful and easy to set up by reviewers who tested them.

Smart assistant integration is weak because multiple reviews explicitly note the absence of voice assistants or voice control.

Multi-speaker pairing was useful when it worked over Wi-Fi, but reviewers flagged limits such as no Bluetooth stereo pairing and frustrating pairing restrictions.

Multi-speaker pairing reliability is a weakness, with several reviewers criticizing missing stereo pairing, missing multi-speaker pairing, or glitchy connection behavior.

App feedback was split: PCMag and some users found Sonos integration smooth, while others complained about unintuitive navigation, heavy app dependence, bugs, or setup errors.

App impressions are mostly positive when the Marshall app works, with useful EQ and firmware support, but one review had trouble finalizing the Kilburn III connection.

On-device controls were mostly praised for responsiveness and convenience, but visibility outdoors drew one criticism.

On-device controls are one of the most praised usability features, especially the tactile knobs, playback toggle, power switch, and direct adjustments without relying on the app.

One reviewer found vocals somewhat veiled before EQ adjustment, making voice clarity acceptable but not ideal by default.

Vocal clarity is praised in music playback, with reviewers calling vocals clear, crisp, forward, textured, and easy to hear in dense mixes.

High-volume behavior was mixed: reviewers reported bass clipping, reduced bass, or clipped dynamics as volume rose.

High-volume distortion control earns strong praise, with reviewers repeatedly saying the speaker stays clean or distortion-free when pushed loud.

The integrated handle usually helped with room-to-room carrying, though some reviewers wanted a more balanced or conventional handle.

The handle and strap are repeatedly praised as comfortable, secure, stylish, and helpful for moving a relatively heavy speaker.

Home theater integration was mixed: one reviewer liked sharing soundbar audio to Move 2, while others criticized the lack of rear-speaker support.

Across reviews, the Kilburn III is repeatedly described as energetic, room-filling, cohesive, and able to handle a wide variety of music well.

Replaceable battery and serviceability were treated as sustainability positives and a way to extend the speaker's life.

Sustainability has limited mixed support through the replaceable battery compartment, with uncertainty about replacement-battery availability.

Weight was one of the clearest drawbacks: reviewers repeatedly described it as heavy, bulky, or not backpack-portable.

Weight convenience is mixed: reviewers appreciate the strap and manageable carry feel, but repeatedly say it is hefty, backpack-unfriendly, or better for home/garden use.

Dynamic headroom was a strength at moderate to high listening levels, with reviewers noting solid volume headroom and maintained dynamics until limits were reached.

Dynamic headroom is praised through reports of large-room output, energetic sound, and plenty of extra volume without losing control.

Dust resistance was only lightly evaluated, with one reviewer calling the IP56 rating decent.

Dust resistance is generally seen as improved and useful for sand, dirt, and outdoor use, though the IP54 rating is not framed as fully rugged.

Control responsiveness and the revised volume slider were widely liked, with reviewers calling the controls nice, precise, and easy to use.

Physical controls are a major strength, with reviewers praising the knobs, switches, tactile buttons, and upgraded control layout.

Reviewers generally found the Move 2 loud for rooms, patios, and outdoor spaces, though one noted it is not a true party-volume boombox without compromises.

Maximum loudness is a major strength, with reviewers describing it as loud, room-filling, party-ready, and in some cases too loud for an apartment.

Everyday usability was praised for flexible home, yard, and room-to-room use, especially within an existing Sonos setup.

Everyday usability is praised because the analog controls are intuitive, easy to live with, and accessible to users without a learning curve.

The power-bank function is treated as a useful bonus, though one reviewer warns that charge direction can be confusing when the speaker is off.

Sound balance was one of the strongest themes, with reviewers praising rich bass, clear highs, and balanced tuning while a few wanted more upper-mid clarity.

Frequency balance is mostly praised for tight bass, clear mids, and lively highs, though a few reviews find it somewhat bassy or middy in places.

Detail retrieval is mostly praised for clarity and instrumental texture, though one review notes a small loss of upper-mid detail.

Energy efficiency was positively evaluated by one reviewer who said testing supported Sonos' efficiency claim.

Energy efficiency is supported by one review's observation that the major runtime gain comes from surprisingly small battery-capacity growth.

Overall value depended heavily on portability needs; reviewers saw the premium as reasonable for flexibility but weak if the speaker stays put.

Value for money is mostly positive because reviewers often say the price is justified by sound, battery life, design, and upgrades, though one finds better value elsewhere.

Setup ranged from easy and smooth to frustrating, with one reviewer reporting a long error-filled setup process.

Setup simplicity gets limited but strong praise, mainly through Google Fast Pair and straightforward Bluetooth pairing.

Drop durability was generally positive, with reviewers describing ruggedness, surviving falls, and not feeling fragile, though cosmetic damage remained possible.

Drop resistance receives limited support from one reviewer who did not test drops but judged the build likely to survive minor falls.

Design and aesthetics were strong positives, with reviewers praising the sleek, premium, minimalist look and build quality.

Design is one of the strongest consensus points, with reviewers repeatedly praising the retro Marshall aesthetic, premium detailing, and statement-piece presence.

Water resistance was viewed as good enough for rain, splashes, showers, and outdoor use, but reviewers noted it is not fully waterproof or submersible.

USB-C support is praised for modern charging, fast-charging compatibility, and external-device charging, with some caveats around charger requirements.

One reviewer specifically liked the mellow default tuning for low-volume background listening.

Low-volume performance is praised in the limited evidence available, especially for keeping richness, separation, and bass at modest listening levels.

The USB-C line-in option was praised for adding versatility, especially for turntables and other external sources.

Wired input receives limited positive support, with one reviewer calling the aux input a good alternative to missing high-quality wireless audio options.

Reviewers agreed the dual-tweeter design widens the presentation versus many single speakers, but several said the stereo effect is still limited from one enclosure.

Stereo imaging is mixed: reviewers like the wide and immersive presentation, but some note limited true stereo separation or asymmetry.

AirPlay 2 was treated as a meaningful plus for Apple users and Sonos multi-room setups.

Build quality is widely praised as solid, durable, and premium, with reviewers highlighting the substantial cabinet feel and sturdy hardware.

A reviewer called out the lack of cast support as a downside for Android-oriented users.
