Compare RIG Spectre R8 Pro vs Skullcandy Crusher PLYR 720

Reviewers consistently praised the headset for clean, impressive, detailed gaming sound, with multiple reviewers calling the audio excellent or amazing.

Most reviewers found the core gaming sound clear, punchy, and highly enjoyable even with Crusher bass off. A few felt the stock tuning was merely decent or less refined than top premium rivals.

Passive isolation was praised by reviewers who noticed strong seal-based isolation, including one calling it kind of incredible.

Passive isolation is very weak by design. The open-back cups let outside sound in, making the headset a poor fit for noisy rooms.

The mic isolates by directional pickup rather than AI noise cancellation, so boom position matters.

Background-noise rejection is a strength: keyboard noise, ringing phones, and other room sounds are filtered effectively, though the processing can make voices sound compressed.

Spatial audio was a standout, with Dolby Atmos and 3D audio comments tied to clearer cues, immersion, and dramatic in-game directionality.

THX Spatial Audio can add strong immersion and convincing head-tracked movement, but reviewers disagree on its precision and usefulness. Some found it excellent; others found distance controls subtle or head tracking buggy.

Bass was generally strong and controlled, though one reviewer found the tuning warmer and another noted it is not a boomy headset by default.

Crusher bass is the defining attraction: it can make explosions, engines, and music physically rumble with unusual force. Reviewers also warn that high settings become overwhelming, fatiguing, or even distort the presentation.

Positional audio was a standout, with reviewers repeatedly hearing footsteps, opponents, height, direction, and map placement accurately.

Positional audio is a major strength, with reviewers repeatedly able to pinpoint footsteps, gunfire, and movement accurately in competitive games.

One reviewer described a spacious, layered Battlefield mix where many audio events remained distinct rather than lost.

The open-back design creates an unusually wide, spacious presentation that reviewers repeatedly praised for immersion and a convincing sense of distance.

One reviewer praised the integrated boom mic for crisp, near one-for-one voice output.

There are no integrated microphones, so removing the boom mic sacrifices call convenience and makes the headset less practical on the go.

The fixed boom mic was a repeated limitation for reviewers who prefer removable or retractable microphones.

The detachable boom mic is convenient when switching to a separate microphone or using the headset without the boom attached.

Packaging was criticized by one reviewer for using paper rather than more protective foam.

The packaging was praised for its presentation and eco-friendly approach.

The boom microphone was generally clear and strong, though some reviewers had caveats about tuning, placement, or fixed design.

The boom microphone is clear enough for gaming, but its stiff arm repeatedly drew criticism because it springs back instead of holding precise placement.

One reviewer wanted more included accessories, especially a second earpad set.

The box is well equipped, and the Xbox version’s included Game Pass code was singled out as a welcome extra.

Wireless latency was praised directly in one review and treated as gaming-ready in another.

Wireless latency reports conflict sharply, from snappy 25ms or effectively lag-free use to concerns over a quoted 40–50ms delay.

Treble/high-frequency clarity was supported by broad sonic clarity comments and a reviewer noting bass, mids, and highs were present.

Treble is the main tonal weakness. Several reviewers heard reduced top-end refinement or an 8kHz emphasis that can sound sharp, metallic, or sibilant.

Connectivity versatility was useful for console/PC and calls, but manual dongle swapping and partial Bluetooth mixing kept it from being seamless.

Connectivity is exceptionally versatile, combining Bluetooth, 2.4GHz wireless, USB audio, and 3.5mm across a broad range of devices.

Portability was mixed: one reviewer called it a poor travel headset, while another said it folds and is manageable for a bag.

The wide, bulky earcups make the headset awkward to pack or use as a travel companion, and the lack of integrated mics further hurts portability.

One reviewer said the firm clamp made the headset feel reassuringly secure.

Once adjusted, the earcups held their selected height surprisingly well in one detailed review.

The dongle was mostly praised for easy docking, reduced clutter, side-kicked USB-C shape, and multi-platform expandability, despite manual swapping complaints.

The 2.4GHz dongle is easy to use, with reviewers describing instant plug-and-play behavior.

Game/chat balance evidence was mixed, with one reviewer praising the balance and another wanting a dedicated physical control.

Game/chat balance works directly on the headset for Xbox and PC, but reviewers note that the same control is unavailable on PS5.

Sidetone/monitoring controls were mixed, with one reviewer finding mid/high levels too heavy and another finding the effect odd.

Sidetone is one of the weaker features. Multiple reviewers called it faint, quiet, or robotic, though one found the level appropriate.

Midrange performance was usually helpful for vocals and critical game cues, but one reviewer found the mids prominent enough to linger.

The midrange was described as clean and well balanced overall, with only minor coloration.

Replaceable earpads were specifically praised as simple to swap thanks to magnetic mounting.

The earpads can be replaced, which helps cleaning and longevity, although reinstalling them can be fiddly.

Console limitations centered on having to choose PS5 or Xbox versions and one reviewer’s lower PlayStation volume experience.

Platform support is broad, but documentation around the two variants and PlayStation behavior can be confusing or contradictory.

Reviewers heard strong separation and detail, especially in chaotic game audio where cheaper headsets can become muddy.

Busy game scenes stay well separated, with effects and gunfire remaining distinct even when the action gets dense.

Multi-platform compatibility was a strong point for PC, console, Bluetooth, mobile, and optional dongles, though not every console is covered by one box.

Multi-platform support is excellent, especially with the Xbox version, which reviewers used successfully across major consoles, PC, Switch, and mobile.

Adjustability worked well for several reviewers, though one called the headband basic compared with more elaborate designs.

Height and headband adjustment can be smooth and stable, but at least one unit gradually slid out of position and needed repeated readjustment.

Android compatibility worked well in one review, with virtually instant connection on a Galaxy Fold device.

Android Bluetooth pairing was seamless in two reviews, with stable audio and no meaningful quality drop.

Swivel and rotation were praised for fitting different head shapes and resting comfortably around the neck.

The 180-degree earcup swivel was praised as convenient for resting the headset around the neck.

One reviewer found console volume lower than desired even after checking limiter and console settings.

One reviewer found PC and music playback quieter than expected for a premium gaming headset.

Earpads were frequently praised for soft memory foam, breathable fabric, deep padding, and lower heat than typical pleather pads.

The ear cushions are generally soft, breathable, and comfortable for long gaming sessions, though a few reviewers found the cloth less plush than expected.

One reviewer specifically praised the included EQ presets as well done.

Several reviewers were happy with the default flat or out-of-box tuning and found little reason to change presets.

Xbox-related compatibility was positive, with instant Xbox recognition and broad USB-C/Xbox-device support.

The Xbox version is repeatedly recommended because it adds wireless Xbox support while also working across PC, PlayStation, Switch, and mobile in testing.

The included USB-C cable was criticized as short, rubber, and non-fancy.

The included flat analog cable works, but one reviewer found its tendency to bunch up annoying.

Simultaneous Bluetooth and wireless use was limited because reviewers could take calls but could not fully mix phone music with game audio.

Simultaneous Bluetooth plus 2.4GHz is one of the most consistently praised conveniences, letting users keep game audio active while taking calls or using a phone app.

Reviewers saw strong value for the price, repeatedly calling it a bang-for-buck or above-its-weight headset.

Value is highly audience-dependent. Bass enthusiasts often feel the experience justifies the premium, while other reviewers argue the $260–$270 price is steep beside cheaper, more polished alternatives.

Earpad replacement was praised as easy because of magnetic attachment and simple removal.

The earpads are removable and easy to clean, but one reviewer found them frustrating to reinstall.

Fit and seal evidence was mixed, from one reviewer disliking the ear-cup slant to others finding the fit adaptable and spacious enough.

The articulated cups can create a good seal and fit larger heads well, but some reviewers found the overall grip loose enough to shift when tilting the head.

Setup was praised as fast and nearly instant, especially with the dock and USB-C dongle.

Setup can be straightforward when everything behaves, but conflicting instructions, unclear icons, and serious software bugs made the experience frustrating for some reviewers.

Controls were usually easy to reach and identify, but one reviewer found a button unresponsive or unclear.

The controls offer a lot directly on the headset, but the multifunction joystick can feel overloaded, imprecise, or easy to mis-trigger. Other reviewers found the layout satisfying and easy to reach.

The mobile app was widely praised as easy, useful, mature, and surprisingly strong for EQ, tutorials, profiles, and mic settings.

The apps offer unusually deep control over EQ, lighting, spatial audio, mic settings, and more. Reliability is inconsistent, with some reviewers reporting smooth operation and others repeated detection or sync bugs.

Bluetooth support was useful and sometimes seamless, but simultaneous Bluetooth was limited for music mixing.

Bluetooth preserved the headset’s haptic-bass performance well in the tested use case.

One reviewer said phone calls during gaming worked well, supporting call usefulness during dual connectivity.

Microphone impressions range from crystal-clear to merely usable. Voice intelligibility is usually good, but some reviewers heard compression, clipping, white noise, or weaker-than-premium quality.

RGB impressions were mixed: reviewers liked the dock flair and customization, but one disliked the button-based RGB controls.

RGB is subtle rather than flashy and can be customized by color and brightness. Effects are fairly limited, and much of the lighting sits inside the earcups.

EQ customization was a strength, with reviewers appreciating simple controls, expert-band options, presets, and the ability to tune the sound.

EQ flexibility is extensive, with multiple custom slots and multi-band tuning that can meaningfully fix the headset’s sharper or bassier tendencies.

Battery life was a major strength, with reviewers repeatedly praising the 60-plus-hour endurance.

Battery results vary widely: some reviewers saw multi-day endurance near the advertised range, while others measured closer to about 25 hours with features active.

Charging was usually convenient thanks to the dock, though one reviewer disliked that the removable battery lacked a separate charging path.

Rapid charging is useful, with one reviewer citing roughly four hours of playback from a ten-minute charge.

Clamp impressions were mixed: one reviewer found it firm, while others described manageable pressure or no vice-like squeeze.

Clamping is light and comfortable, but one reviewer found it so loose that the headset could move during more active head motion.

Weight comfort was mixed-to-positive, with one reviewer liking the middleweight heft and another noting it was not especially light.

Weight impressions are mixed. The suspension system distributes the mass well for some reviewers, while others found roughly 370 grams too heavy for extended wear.

Build quality was generally described as solid or sturdy, even though the construction is mostly plastic.

Build quality is divisive. Some units feel premium, sturdy, and durable, while others come across as too plastic-heavy with creaking adjustment points for the price.

Comfort ranged from middling or slightly uncomfortable in some fits to very comfortable in others, especially over long sessions.

Long-session comfort is usually very good thanks to breathable pads and the suspension design. Heavier weight, a sticky silicone strap, and occasional fit quirks keep it from being universally comfortable.

Design impressions were mostly positive and understated, with praise for modern looks, smart styling, and customization, offset by some plastic-material complaints.

The styling is restrained for a gaming headset, with a premium matte-black look and subtle lighting. The oversized cups can still look bulky on the head.

Active noise cancellation is absent, and one reviewer counted that omission against the headset at this price.

One reviewer reported no perceptible lag during wireless use, with game audio feeling immediately synchronized.

Measurements and listening impressions point to generally solid tonal balance, but with uneven bass-to-mid transitions and notable treble peaks that benefit from EQ.

Open-back leakage is noticeable in shared spaces, though a couple of reviewers found it less severe than expected at normal listening levels.

A reviewer wanted a travel case, noting the headset did not come with one.

Glasses wearers reported little to no extra pressure, with the soft cups sitting comfortably over frame arms.

The charging stand was one of the most-praised features, described as game-changing, sturdy, slick, convenient, and desk-tidying, though one reviewer wanted more hub functionality.

Overall reactions range from ecstatic to deeply frustrated. The unique bass, strong gaming sound, and immersion inspire unusually strong fans, while software bugs, weight, build concerns, and price prevent universal endorsement.

Replaceable ear plates were praised for personalization, protection, and easy customization, though one reviewer saw them as optional.

Auto-sleep behavior was unreliable in repeated testing, occasionally leaving the headset powered on for hours.

The silicone suspension strap can pick up visible grease and feel sticky, which makes it less pleasant to keep looking clean.

USB-C audio adds another useful wired connection option alongside Bluetooth, 2.4GHz, and 3.5mm.

Wireless range drew a repeated complaint: one reviewer saw dropouts at roughly 12 feet, far short of the expected range.

Plastic hinge and adjustment points raised durability concerns in two hands-on reviews, including creaking and visible flex.
