Compare Hoover Smartwash Automatic Carpet Cleaner Machine vs BISSELL Big Green Professional Carpet Cleaner

Ease of use was one of the broadest positives, with repeated praise for simple tanks, automatic operation, easy cleaning, and light handling.

Ease of use was strong where reviewers discussed push/pull cleaning, maneuverability, tank installation, and large-area coverage before refill stops.

Innovation evidence was positive, with reviewers framing it as newer, easier carpet-cleaner technology compared with older/rental-style machines.

Innovation was a weak spot in one review, which said the machine’s only unusual trait was being larger and heavier than most competitors.

Weight feedback was positive overall, with several reviewers calling it relatively lightweight, easy to push, or lighter than rentals.

Weight was the clearest repeated drawback: reviewers consistently called the machine heavy, large, or difficult for stairs and some users.

The liquid system divided reviewers: automatic mixing and dispensing were praised for simplicity, but sensor and speed-threshold issues hurt performance in some tests.

The liquid system stood out for efficient water use, removable/refillable tanks, visible solution status, and strong area coverage before refilling.

Heating-related evidence was mixed: some reviewers praised faster drying, while others warned there is no true heater and described HeatForce as hot exhaust air.

The 7700 review described the heating element as useful for improving cleaning by raising hot tap-water temperature.

Area-rug handling was praised in a pet-home review where rug color and cleanliness bounced back strongly.

Area-rug handling was supported only by one 7700 review, which said best results seemed limited to small areas, bare floors, and area rugs.

Stain-removal evidence was sharply mixed: some reviewers saw strong results, while controlled tests found weak upright stain performance on tougher stains.

Stain-removal performance was the strongest recurring theme, with reviewers praising dried-on, tough, vomit, tomato sauce, and other stain results.

Overall opinion was polarized: many owners highly recommended or loved it, but two testing/defective-unit reviews did not recommend it.

Overall opinion was strongly positive across most reviews, with repeated best-in-class or highly recommended conclusions, plus one mixed consumer-review outlier.

Heavy-duty suitability was context-dependent: it impressed in a pet-and-kids home, but one reviewer said the tank is small for big whole-house jobs.

Heavy-duty suitability was a standout theme: reviewers repeatedly framed the machine as a workhorse for large areas and deep cleaning.

Tank feedback was generally positive for capacity, coverage, and clean/dirty separation, though one review warned the one-gallon tank is small for whole-house jobs.

Water-tank performance was repeatedly praised for large capacity, removable/refill-friendly design, and long coverage between refills.

Maintenance was a major strength: reviewers repeatedly praised removable brushes, removable covers, easy tank cleaning, and easy cleanup.

Maintenance was generally manageable, with easy tank and underbody cleanup, but brushroll removal requiring a screwdriver and interior wiping were drawbacks.

Accessories were a clear strength, with repeated praise for the hose, pet tool, Spot Chaser, and attachment usefulness.

The included hose and tough stain/upholstery tools were usually viewed as useful, though one reviewer strongly disliked the included shampoo bottles.

Emptying and mess control were mostly positive, with reviewers finding the dirty tank easy to remove, empty, and clean.

The dirty-water tank earned strong marks in one test because it was easy to empty and clean through the large opening.

Fresh liquid-like stains were handled well in testing, with urine, grape juice, and worked-in liquid stains clearing quickly.

Fresh or wet stain pickup was praised in several tests, including fast grape-juice cleanup and strong wet-stain results.

Drying was one of the strongest themes, with many reviewers praising dry-only mode, HeatForce, or fast usable carpets, despite one regular-cleaning caveat.

Drying performance was repeatedly praised, with reviewers saying it left carpets drier than competitors or helped carpets dry faster.

Above-floor and spot cleaning were consistently praised, especially the hose, handheld/pet tools, and spot-cleaning performance.

Above-floor and upholstery cleaning were considered useful and at least slightly above average, helped by the hose and tough stain/stair tool.

Handling was usually praised, with reviewers describing the machine as lightweight, easy to push, or lighter than rented cleaners.

Handling feedback was mixed: one review called it easy to maneuver, while another said its heavy body was still felt during use.

Carpet hair pickup was praised in a pet-home review that still pulled substantial Golden Retriever hair after thorough vacuuming.

One owner observed carpet pet-hair pickup during deep cleaning, tying hair removal to the brushroll and extraction performance.

Hose length was praised by two reviewers as really long and useful for furniture or car cleaning.

Hose length was praised by Vacuum Wars as Bissell’s longest hose, increasing reach for stairs, upholstery, and other above-floor tasks.

Pet-focused reviewers liked the pet tools, Spot Chaser, and real-world cleaning on pet-heavy carpets and rugs.

Pet-related cleanup evidence was strong, with one review highlighting urine-stain cleanup and another noting pickup of pet hair and stains from carpet.

Tool changes were praised in the pet comparison because the Spot Chaser handle releases easily.

The hose/accessory changeover was described as clearly marked and simple, requiring only a quarter-turn connection process.

Versatility was a recurring strength, especially for spot cleaning, manual tool use, attachments, and doing more than basic carpet passes.

Versatility was praised for hose, attachments, above-floor uses, and multi-surface capability, though spot cleaning was only slightly above average in one test.

Reliability concerns centered on two reviews from the same reviewer where the automatic sensor failed and the unit had to be sent back.

Warranty confidence and widely available parts supported reliability confidence in the reviews that discussed ownership support.

Value was mixed-to-positive: owners often called it worth the money, while test reviewers noted cheaper alternatives or a premium price caveat.

Reviewers generally considered it worth the higher price because of performance, durability, and warranty support, while still repeatedly noting it is expensive.

Durability evidence was negative in one used-unit review where the automatic wash/dry sensing failed badly enough to return it.

Durability was a major strength in most reviews, especially rental-fleet build and tank-like construction, but one review cited leaking complaints.

The two-brush floorhead design was praised as one of the best carpet-cleaner brush systems overall.

Floorhead feedback was mostly positive thanks to the large/aggressive brush and spring-loaded nozzle, but the 9-inch path was narrower than some competitors.

Controls were mixed: reviewers liked the simple automatic concept, but two reviews reported the wash/dry sensing failing or misreading direction.

Controls were viewed as simple and easy to operate, with one review noting the minimal on/off and trigger setup.

Comparative performance was mixed: some tests ranked SmartWash well for drying and features, while others preferred Power Scrub or the pet variant.

Comparative performance was strong, with reviewers saying it beat named rental-style competitors and lower-priced options for key cleaning tasks.

Reviewers split on suction: one comparative test found poor sealed-box suction, while another measured above-average suction and an owner described strong power.

Reviewers consistently praised suction at the floor head/nozzle, with repeated test evidence of class-leading extraction; the main caveat was weaker sealed suction at the hose in one test.

One technician highlighted the spring-loaded/free-floating lower design as a rare design intended to accommodate higher-pile carpet.

A medium-pile carpet test was positive, with the reviewer calling the stain performance far better than average.

Cord length received one positive owner mention, calling the more-than-20-foot cable great.

One review of the Big Green 7700 praised its filtration approach for containing dust and helping clean the air while cleaning floors.

Hair-wrap and tangle resistance scored well in the pet version because the handheld scrubber was described as making a real difference.

Kid-friendliness was supported by one owner who said even kids could use it because the controls were not confusing.

Packaging received only light opinionated coverage, with one reviewer describing a colorful retail-style box full of advertising.

Storage feedback was split: the fold-down handle helped storage, but the machine’s large body made it inconvenient for some users to store or use often.

Residue/streaking evidence was negative in controlled testing, where multiple stains and residue remained after repeated passes.

Small-space suitability was weak because reviewers emphasized the need for storage space and cautioned against the machine for users who struggle with its size and weight.

Automation was praised when it worked because it reduced guesswork in mixing, spraying, washing, and drying.

Airflow blowback evidence was positive in a comparative drying explanation, where upward airflow toward the brushes helped drying performance.

Mopping or hard-floor washing support came from one 7700 review, which said the hard-floor tool did a good job on sealed surfaces.

Noise feedback was mixed: one technician found it very loud and advised earplugs for heavy use, while another owner considered it relatively quiet for its size.

Ownership cost evidence was limited to one pet-version comparison noting that extra Spot Chaser solution has to be purchased.

The hose and tough stain tool were repeatedly praised for making stair cleaning more practical.

Steam-cleaning feedback came from the 7700 review and was mixed: results ranged from adequate to very good, but slow operation was a caveat.

Setup was praised as very easy, with the handle snapping into place during assembly.

Build quality was one of the clearest strengths, with reviewers citing rental-fleet toughness, long-lasting construction, and tank-like durability.
