Scorata scores summarize analyzed review evidence on a 1–5 scale; they are not laboratory measurements or a simple average of customer star ratings. Feature scores summarize the reviews covering that feature. The overall score averages feature scores within each review, then combines review averages. When both expert and customer evidence are available, those two groups receive equal weight. Products can have different review coverage, so small score gaps do not establish a winner.
Recommendations prioritize important features for the category, with a score of at least 3.5, a gap of at least 0.25 points and at least two supporting reviews per product. Features with widely varying scores or broad connectivity contexts are excluded from recommendations. These safeguards do not establish statistical significance.
Quick verdict
The review evidence points to a tradeoff: Maneuverability and Handling and Price and Value versus Ease of use and Comparative performance. Choose according to which strengths matter more to you; the overall score alone does not settle that choice.
Choose Hoover PowerScrub Carpet Cleaner Machine for Maneuverability and Handling and Price and Value.
Choose BISSELL Big Green Professional Carpet Cleaner for Ease of use and Comparative performance.
Scores are out of 5. Missing scores mean missing review evidence, not a missing feature.
Ease of use was one of the most consistent positives, with reviewers describing operation, handling, and basic setup as simple.
Ease of use was strong where reviewers discussed push/pull cleaning, maneuverability, tank installation, and large-area coverage before refill stops.
The horizontal SpinScrub approach stood out versus traditional brushroll competitors, especially for stain spread and long-pile handling.
Innovation was a weak spot in one review, which said the machine’s only unusual trait was being larger and heavier than most competitors.
Weight feedback is mixed but mostly positive: several found it light, while one found it somewhat hard to carry on stairs.
Weight was the clearest repeated drawback: reviewers consistently called the machine heavy, large, or difficult for stairs and some users.
Area rug and long-pile rug evidence was positive, with reviewers reporting strong results across rugs and carpets.
Area-rug handling was supported only by one 7700 review, which said best results seemed limited to small areas, bare floors, and area rugs.

Stain-removal performance was the strongest recurring theme, with reviewers praising dried-on, tough, vomit, tomato sauce, and other stain results.
Packaging drew a negative note because the retail box arrived without an outer shipping box.
Packaging received only light opinionated coverage, with one reviewer describing a colorful retail-style box full of advertising.

Handling feedback was mixed: one review called it easy to maneuver, while another said its heavy body was still felt during use.
A large-household reviewer framed it as a valuable tool for regular deep cleaning in a busy home.
Heavy-duty suitability was a standout theme: reviewers repeatedly framed the machine as a workhorse for large areas and deep cleaning.
Drying feedback is mostly positive thanks to suction and heated airflow, but one comparison test found weaker drying results for this model.
Drying performance was repeatedly praised, with reviewers saying it left carpets drier than competitors or helped carpets dry faster.
The wash/rinse and solution systems were praised for flexibility, automatic dispensing, and generally sensible water/solution use.
The liquid system stood out for efficient water use, removable/refillable tanks, visible solution status, and strong area coverage before refilling.
Above-floor and upholstery results were generally good, including chairs, spot cleaning, and couch/futon use, though not every tool impressed.
Above-floor and upholstery cleaning were considered useful and at least slightly above average, helped by the hose and tough stain/stair tool.
Heated airflow was viewed positively as a drying aid, though one reviewer only observed the heat before full cleaning tests.
The 7700 review described the heating element as useful for improving cleaning by raising hot tap-water temperature.
Storage is workable for those with space, but one reviewer warned it may be hard to store in smaller homes.
Storage feedback was split: the fold-down handle helped storage, but the machine’s large body made it inconvenient for some users to store or use often.
Maintenance is mixed: brush/nozzle access can be easy, but dirty-tank cleanup and roller access drew complaints in some tests.
Maintenance was generally manageable, with easy tank and underbody cleanup, but brushroll removal requiring a screwdriver and interior wiping were drawbacks.
Overall sentiment is very positive across user and test reviews, with many recommending it or calling it a standout midrange option.
Overall opinion was strongly positive across most reviews, with repeated best-in-class or highly recommended conclusions, plus one mixed consumer-review outlier.

Versatility was praised for hose, attachments, above-floor uses, and multi-surface capability, though spot cleaning was only slightly above average in one test.
Build quality drew a concern from one reviewer who questioned long-term durability because of the plastic construction.
Build quality was one of the clearest strengths, with reviewers citing rental-fleet toughness, long-lasting construction, and tank-like durability.
One reviewer raised a longevity concern because the body felt heavily plastic.
Durability was a major strength in most reviews, especially rental-fleet build and tank-like construction, but one review cited leaking complaints.
The SpinScrub floorhead design is a tradeoff: it limits stain spreading, but one test criticized the brush speed/efficiency.
Floorhead feedback was mostly positive thanks to the large/aggressive brush and spring-loaded nozzle, but the 9-inch path was narrower than some competitors.
Stair cleaning was described as straightforward, though the same review noted the unit had some carrying weight.
The hose and tough stain tool were repeatedly praised for making stair cleaning more practical.
Comparative results are favorable overall, especially for midrange value, although one multi-machine test ranked it behind some alternatives overall.
Comparative performance was strong, with reviewers saying it beat named rental-style competitors and lower-priced options for key cleaning tasks.
Reviewers generally found upright suction and airflow strong, especially at the nozzle, though hose suction was weaker in lab testing.

High-pile and long-pile carpet handling was strongly praised because the brushes cleaned without jamming or slowing.

One review of the Big Green 7700 praised its filtration approach for containing dust and helping clean the air while cleaning floors.
Hair cleanup around the brush/channel was praised as very easy with the included cleaning tool.
One owner observed carpet pet-hair pickup during deep cleaning, tying hair removal to the brushroll and extraction performance.
Tangle resistance was praised in high-pile/long-pile use, where the cleaner avoided jams and tangles.
Hose length was praised by Vacuum Wars as Bissell’s longest hose, increasing reach for stairs, upholstery, and other above-floor tasks.
One household reviewer connected shampooing and deodorizing with a noticeable improvement in room feel.
Residue and streaking control was strong because reviewers liked the rinse feature and the low stain-spread behavior.
Small-space suitability was weak because reviewers emphasized the need for storage space and cautioned against the machine for users who struggle with its size and weight.
