Compare Dyson V15s Detect Submarine Wet Dry Vacuum vs Dyson V11 Outsize Cordless Vacuum Cleaner

Ease of use was mostly positive for maneuvering and day-to-day cleaning, but push resistance, many parts, and trigger fatigue created caveats.

Ease of use is mostly strong thanks to cordless convenience, auto mode, simple setup, and easy tool use, but trigger effort and weight pull scores down.

Debris handling through the mop head was a recurring weakness, especially with dry debris, liquid mixed with solids, cereal, small debris, or wand blockages.

Clogging evidence is positive but limited, with one review noting that extra-large debris did not get stuck in the intake.

Heavy-duty suitability was limited; reviews repeatedly framed the mop as better for light, regular cleaning than deep grime or full mop-and-bucket replacement.

The Outsize is repeatedly framed as a heavy-duty cordless option for large homes, big messes, and near-upright cleaning demands.

Small-space suitability was strong because reviewers saw the compact, multi-function design as a way to avoid owning multiple floor-cleaning devices.

Small-space suitability is a recurring weakness because reviewers say the Outsize is overkill for apartments and harder to fit into narrow areas.

Mess control was polarized: dry-bin emptying could be easy, but the dirty-water compartment, mop debris, and cleanup were messy in several reviews.

Emptying is mostly praised as easy and hygienic, but some reviewers note stuck debris or the large bin making handling less tidy.

Weight feedback was mixed: some found it light and easy, while others reported hand, thumb, or forearm fatigue.

Weight is the most consistent drawback: reviewers repeatedly call the Outsize heavy, arm-tiring, or awkward compared with smaller stick vacuums.

Maneuverability was mostly praised for swivel, lay-flat ability, easy gliding, and small head size, though some reviewers felt effort or fatigue on certain surfaces.

Handling is split: the Outsize can swivel, glide, and cover area well, but its size, weight, and large head reduce agility in tight spaces.

Onboard tool storage was weak because one review found more accessories than mounting solutions.

Onboard storage is mixed: wand clips and mounted tools help, but some reviewers complain about missing bags or docks that do not hold every accessory.

Crevice and groove pickup was mixed, with one review praising nooks-and-crannies cleaning but lab testing showing weak deep-crevice pickup from the mop head.

Crevice and groove pickup is positive in lab and pet-owner use, though the large handheld body can make tight vehicle crevices harder.

The dry bin was viewed as adequate and generally usable, but some reviewers still had to reach in for stuck hair or debris.

The oversized bin is one of the strongest points: reviewers like the large capacity and fewer emptying stops, though it contributes to bulk.

Tool changes were usually quick and easy, but several reviewers disliked the extra reconfiguring needed because vacuuming and mopping require separate heads.

Tool changes are generally praised as quick and simple, with reviewers calling out quick-release buttons, easy accessory swaps, and improved brushroll access.

One review highlighted the product's versatility as the factor that sets it apart from other wet-dry mops.

Innovation evidence is positive, with reviewers pointing to major cordless advances and Dyson designs that competitors copied.

The cable-free design was praised for portability around domestic cleaning tasks.

Cordless convenience is a major strength, with reviewers emphasizing easier room-to-room cleaning, no outlet hunting, and faster everyday use.

Versatility was a major strength because the machine combines high-end dry vacuuming with a mop head and broad attachment set.

Versatility is praised in reviews that highlight broad attachment use, hard-to-reach cleaning, and switching among floors, furniture, and car tasks.

Maintenance was mixed: dry-vac maintenance could be straightforward, but the mop head requires washing, drying, and manual cleanup after use.

Maintenance is generally considered easy, supported by washable filters, alerts, easy brushroll access, and simple cleaning steps, though occasional hair removal remains.

Carpet hair pickup was strong, lifting ingrained long hair and fur well in hands-on testing.

Hair pickup on carpets is a standout strength in pet-heavy homes, with reviewers describing deeply embedded pet hair being pulled from carpets.

Area rug handling was generally positive across rugs and mixed floor homes, including thick-pile and delicate rug examples.

Area-rug handling is mixed: auto suction helps transitions, but very high suction can cling to rugs and make cleaning feel like a workout.

Overall impressions were positive but qualified: reviewers loved the vacuum and versatility, while the mop, maintenance, tanks, and price created tradeoffs.

Overall sentiment is strongly favorable for large-home use, with reviewers praising performance heavily while repeatedly warning about weight and price.

One reviewer noted hair could get trapped in crevices and need manual attention.

Hair-removal channel evidence is limited and mixed, with one reviewer seeing significant long-hair tangling after a measured hair test.

Pet-related feedback was positive: dog owners liked the mop option for paw prints and reviewers found pet hair pickup strong, though hair wrap still required attention in some tests.

Pet owners report very strong hair pickup across carpets, hard floors, furniture, and pet-heavy homes, making pet cleanup one of the product’s clearest strengths.

Runtime was a strength, with many reviewers reporting enough battery for homes, long mop runtime, or useful auto-mode endurance.

Runtime is one of the strongest consensus positives, especially when two batteries effectively double cleaning time for large homes.

Medium or conventional carpet pickup was praised in one hands-on review for pulling dust, bunnies, and grime from carpeting.

Medium-pile carpet performance is strongly positive, including deep-clean testing and broader V11 evidence of excellent carpet cleaning.

Hard-floor fine-dust pickup was excellent, especially with the Fluffy Optic head and laser revealing fine dust, sugar, hair, and corner debris.

Fine-dust pickup on hard floors is usually strong, especially with laser/fluffy-style heads, though one hard-floor stress test found average results.

Above-floor and upholstery pickup was praised, especially for sofa, dog-bed, mattress, shelf, and couch-corner use.

Above-floor and upholstery cleaning is useful with the right tools, especially for hair, but handheld weight limits comfort for longer or cramped jobs.

Storage feedback was split: the compact attachment system helped in small spaces, but the vacuum is not freestanding and several reviews complained about attachment or dock storage.

Storage feedback is mixed: wall docks and organized charging help, but reviewers dislike that it cannot stand alone or that docks may not hold every attachment.

Large hard-floor debris performance was mixed: dry vacuum heads often performed very well, but the mop head struggled with cereal, rice, and large pieces.

Large-debris hard-floor intake is generally strong but not flawless, with some reviewers noting scatter, pushing, or worse results in difficult tests.

Hair-wrap resistance was mixed: Dyson's anti-tangle tools worked well in some tests, but longer hair still wrapped or needed cutting free in others.

Tangle resistance is generally good thanks to Dyson brush design and detangling tools, though very long hair can still wrap.

The accessory set was widely praised as versatile and complete, with multiple cleaning heads and specialty tools for floors, crevices, hair, stairs, and upholstery.

The tool set is widely praised for versatility, upholstery, crevices, pet hair, and hard-to-reach jobs, though one reviewer disliked the lack of an accessory carrying bag.

Hard-floor hair pickup was praised across tests, especially with the Fluffy Optic head and strong suction.

Hair pickup on hard floors is strongly positive where tested, with reviewers describing fur, food crumbs, and dust being removed easily.

Under-furniture pickup was praised in one review for the thin wand and flexible head joint.

Under-furniture pickup is a strength because the stick design and top-mounted bin let it lie low and reach under beds, couches, and tables.

Low-pile carpet pickup was one of the strongest areas, with reviewers describing carpets as nearly new, excellent, or crushed in tests.

Low-pile carpet pickup is consistently strong, with multiple tests describing flawless or near-flawless performance.

Debris illumination was one of the most consistently loved features, repeatedly helping reviewers see hidden dust and make vacuuming more thorough.

Debris illumination is highly praised in the Outsize Plus evidence, where the green laser made hidden hard-floor dust visible.

High-pile and thicker carpet pickup was generally workable but less dominant, needing slower passes or more effort with larger lightweight debris.

High-pile carpet results are mixed: suction helps deep cleaning, but some reviewers found thick carpet hard to push or problematic for large debris.

Filtration and dust containment drew strong praise, with reviewers describing the filtration as excellent and the system as keeping fine flour or microscopic dust well contained.

Filtration is strongly praised across reviews, with sealed HEPA-style systems and dust containment repeatedly described as keeping fine particles inside the vacuum.

Headlight performance was praised as better than typical LED headlights in one lab comparison.

Headlight or illumination feedback is positive where the Laser Slim Fluffy head is included, making tiny dust easier to see.

Kid-friendliness was noted positively when the dust-revealing head made a child's room vacuuming more fun.

Kid-friendliness evidence is limited but positive, with one household saying easy access even got the kids using it.

Surface safety feedback was positive from a reviewer who felt the head protected tile from scratches.

Surface-safety evidence is limited but positive, with one reviewer saying the hair tool gripped upholstery gently while removing hair.

One reviewer specifically praised Dyson customer service as excellent and efficient for support and faulty-part replacement.

Support evidence is limited and negative, with one reviewer reporting that Dyson support directed them to Amazon rather than solving the issue.

Setup ranged from very easy to confusing: several reviewers assembled it quickly, while others needed manuals, videos, or clearer instructions for the Submarine head.

Setup is usually described as easy or straightforward, although one reviewer was initially overwhelmed by the number of parts before sorting them.

Value was one of the most divided areas: reviewers liked the added mop at Dyson-tier performance, but repeatedly flagged the high price or weak mop premium.

Value opinions are mixed: many reviewers think the performance justifies the price for large homes, while others flag it as very expensive or not the best V11 value.

Ownership-cost feedback was limited and mixed, mentioning optional spare batteries and likely mop-roller replacement costs.

Ownership-cost comments are favorable where mentioned because washable filters and reusable parts keep routine maintenance costs low.

Cyclone performance received one positive assessment that the core dust-separation technology seemed to do the job.

Cyclone evidence is limited but positive, with the Outsize’s cyclone system tied to powerful, fade-free suction.

Stair-cleaning feedback was favorable where the hair screw and smaller tools were used for stairs, furniture, and pet-related jobs.

Stair evidence is limited but positive in a pet-owner review that praised fast, deep cleaning on bedrooms and stairs.

Edge and baseboard cleaning was mostly positive, but one lab review found the exposed roller could miss debris at wall contact.

Edge and baseboard cleaning evidence is positive but limited, with one reviewer surprised by how well the Outsize handled baseboard debris.

Comparative performance was favorable against Dyson's V15 lineage, with the Submarine treated as comparable to or based on a top cordless platform.

Comparative comments are positive for performance, with reviewers placing the Outsize ahead of many cordless competitors and even near full-size uprights in some tests.

Reviewers consistently praised the vacuuming side as powerful, with strong suction and airflow across general cleaning, carpets, hard floors, and hard-to-reach areas.

Reviewers repeatedly praise the Outsize for class-leading cordless suction, upright-like airflow, and strong pickup, with only rug drag and weight-related control as side effects.

Noise feedback was mixed: one lab result found mopping slightly quieter than average, while another reviewer found Boost mode very loud.

Noise feedback is mixed: some reviewers find it quieter than expected or comfortable in lower modes, while others complain that higher settings are loud.

Airflow blowback was a negative edge case, with one reviewer getting a blast of vent air when cleaning under low furniture.

Airflow blowback evidence is limited and negative, with one reviewer bothered by warm vented air hitting their face or hands in close work.

The handheld conversion was praised for sofa, mattress, and tight-spot cleaning.

Handheld conversion is useful for furniture, cars, and patio areas, but several reviewers find the large bin and heavy body awkward in handheld use.

Build quality was generally strong for the main vacuum, but some reviewers criticized plastic feel or dock/head design elements.

Build quality evidence is limited but positive, with one reviewer calling it a top-of-the-line product expected to last years.

One lab review saw promising long-term durability in the Submarine attachment's lightweight, sturdy plastic construction.

Durability expectations are positive where mentioned, with reviewers describing the Outsize as a top-line product with quality and longevity.

Design comments leaned positive on the colorful, quirky Dyson styling, though one reviewer felt the plastic mop head looked more toy-like than premium.

Design comments are positive overall, describing the vacuum as sleek, slim, smart-looking, and not bulky despite its large cleaning hardware.

Low-profile capability was excellent in lab testing because the vacuum could fully lay flat.

Low-profile cleaning is praised because the cleaner head and stick layout can reach under low furniture and narrow spots.

Floorhead design was strong for dry heads and surface matching, but the separated vac-mop layout reduced the all-in-one feel.

The wider floorhead is praised for coverage and speed in large areas, though some reviewers note it sacrifices agility in tight spaces.

The LCD and smart display were often praised, but the trigger operation and some particle-readout usefulness drew repeated complaints.

The LCD and controls are frequently praised for runtime countdowns, mode changes, and maintenance prompts, though the trigger is a recurring ergonomic complaint.

Smart features were praised for auto suction adjustment, battery efficiency, particle detection, and display feedback, though there was no app-centered praise.

Smart suction and automation are consistently praised, especially auto mode that adjusts power by floor type to balance cleaning and runtime.

Battery and charging feedback was strong overall, with long runtime, useful countdowns, fade-free behavior, and removable-battery benefits.

Battery feedback is highly positive overall, especially for swappable batteries, dual-battery setups, and the ability to keep cleaning without long interruptions.

Dirty-water sensing was a clear weakness in TechRadar's review because the display only showed clean-water level, not dirty-water buildup.

Dried-on stain performance ranged from excellent one- or two-pass results to needing many extra passes or struggling with overnight sticky stains.

Floor drying time was praised in two reviews, with quick drying and floors not left saturated after mopping.

Hard-floor seal evidence is very positive, with reviewers linking strong crevice pickup and hard-floor performance to an excellent cleaner-head seal.

Fresh liquid pickup was useful for small spills and standalone liquids, but multiple reviews warned against large wet spills or wet-solid mixtures.

Hose feedback is limited and negative, with one reviewer finding the extension hose less useful because it added handling faff.

Packaging was praised for secure, recyclable cardboard protection.

The self-propelled mopping feel was praised as lightweight and easy to propel along.

Liquid delivery feedback was mixed: some liked the controlled water output, while others disliked the single wet mode and lack of water-flow adjustment.

Streaking and residue were recurring mop-head concerns, especially after pauses, large spills, dirty rollers, or uneven initial water flow.

Stuck-resistance evidence is negative and limited, with extreme suction on rugs described as making the vacuum difficult to move.

Water tank feedback was mixed to negative: reviewers liked the reach of the small tank in some rooms, but repeatedly called the reservoirs small or spill-prone.

One reviewer successfully cleaned a delicate wool woven rug despite initial hesitation.

Mopping performance was useful for light cleaning, small spills, and general maintenance, but reviews agreed it is not a full true wet-dry or deep-clean replacement.

Sanitizing feedback was negative because the Submarine cannot steam-sterilize floors.

The lack of an auto self-cleaning cycle was a repeated weakness, making mop-head cleanup more manual than competing wet-dry vacuums.

The product does not provide steam cleaning, and one review treated that as a limitation versus hot, sterilizing mop methods.
