Compare Sennheiser MOMENTUM 4 Wireless Headphones vs Marshall Milton A.N.C.

Reviewers overwhelmingly liked the sound, describing it as excellent, detailed, crisp, engaging, or exceptional; criticism focused more on tuning taste than basic audio quality.

Most reviewers describe the sound as warm, energetic, clean, and enjoyable across genres. A minority dislike the bright, bass-heavy default and say it needs EQ.

Wear detection performance was praised because playback resumed automatically and was described as fantastic.

Wear detection does not merely perform inconsistently; it is absent. Reviewers accustomed to automatic pausing found that omission frustrating.

Spatial audio was a weakness in the 2025 video review, which described the feature as weak compared with newer headphone tech.

Soundstage mode can add convincing room-like depth and immersion, and several reviewers kept it enabled. Others find it subtle, bass-reducing, artificial, or inferior to true spatial audio.

Sound leakage was positive in the one supporting review, which said the closed-back design and pads minimized leakage.

Sound leakage becomes noticeable at higher volumes, and the on-ear fit allows outside sound in as well. This is a format tradeoff rather than a minor edge case.

ANC effect on sound signature was mildly negative because one review reported a small performance loss with ANC on.

Switching ANC on does not audibly alter the core sound signature, an excellent result for tonal consistency.

ANC's sound impact was mildly negative because one review heard a small soundstage/imaging loss when ANC was activated.

ANC can improve listening by reducing surrounding noise and revealing musical details without forcing higher volume.

Wind noise handling was praised in one video review, which said the wind reduction worked effectively.

Wind handling is mixed. Calls can suppress wind very well, but transparency and ANC microphones may feed wind noise back to the wearer.

Frequency response accuracy was strongly praised by the lab-style review that found the measured response close to its preference curve.

The tuning is broadly balanced and cohesive, but one reviewer found the dynamic range compressed. It favors an enjoyable presentation over strict analytical neutrality.

Bass was generally praised for punch, warmth, and control, though several reviewers found the stock low end a little heavy, boomy, or occasionally flabby.

Bass is a defining strength: deep, punchy, and visceral without usually burying vocals. Several reviewers still find the stock low end too heavy.

Immersive audio was praised in the supporting review for intimate, holographic vocal presentation.

Movies and TV benefit from clear, spacious, immersive sound, making the Milton more versatile than simpler on-ear models.

ANC opinions were split: several reviewers found it solid, effective, or excellent, while others called it middling, dated, subpar, or behind Sony and Bose.

ANC is widely considered excellent for on-ear headphones and works well on engines, traffic hum, offices, and flights. It still cannot consistently match the deep isolation of leading over-ear models.

Soundstage was usually considered good for wireless closed-back ANC headphones, with some reviewers praising width while others found it intimate or not as expansive as software-enhanced rivals.

The native soundstage ranges from intimate to surprisingly spacious for on-ears. Marshall’s Soundstage mode can add width, though the result depends strongly on the setting and content.

ANC background noise handling was mid-pack: the review said it held up but trailed the best competitors.

ANC reduces steady noise well, but the on-ear seal prevents a consistent sense of deep silence. A faint hiss and persistent voices are occasional concerns.

Passive isolation was a weakness, with reviewers saying the Momentum 4 let in more ambient sound than competitors or had weaker isolation than the prior model.

Passive isolation is the predictable weak point of the on-ear design. The pads help, but the incomplete seal lets voices and sharper sounds pass through.

Microphone noise reduction was mixed: one reviewer noted issues rejecting noise, while another test found the microphones clearly picked up speech through traffic noise.

Background suppression works well in some call tests, even against loud music. Other tests still picked up ambient noise, making performance inconsistent.

aptX support was evaluated positively, especially for Android consistency and codec flexibility.

There is no aptX support, which is a clear limitation for listeners whose devices or libraries depend on that codec.

Wear detection auto-pause was praised because music paused and resumed automatically in a way the reviewer liked.

Wear detection is absent, so playback does not pause when the headphones are removed. This is the most repeated missing feature and feels outdated at the price.

Auto-play and wear detection was praised as an important feature that the reviewer felt was implemented well.

The headphones do not detect when they are removed, so music keeps playing until paused manually. Reviewers consider this a noticeable omission at the price.

Ecosystem integration was limited for Apple-centric users because one review noted the lack of iOS-only features.

Native Apple Find My and Google Find Hub support integrates the headphones cleanly with both major mobile ecosystems.

LDAC was a clear omission for reviewers who wanted higher-bitrate or lossless-style wireless options.

LDAC is a welcome first for Marshall and can reveal more detail with compatible Android devices. One technical test questioned whether the headphones deliver the full high-frequency extension associated with Hi-Res labeling.

Analog input practicality was mixed to negative because wired listening without power degraded significantly in one review.

The included USB-C-to-3.5mm cable supports legacy wired sources and seatback systems. Analog mode still requires battery power, so it is not a true passive fallback.

Headband padding was a comfort caveat, with reviewers noting pressure concentration or possible digging during careless fit or very long sessions.

The cushioned headband spreads pressure effectively and supports comfortable all-day wear.

The integrated microphone array was positively described in one test as clearly picking up the speaker's voice.

The integrated microphones keep calls intelligible, but at least one test found voices scratchy and unnatural compared with stronger competitors.

Travel friendliness was mixed because battery and case helped, but weak noise cancellation limited travel and commuting recommendations.

Compact folding, low weight, strong ANC, and marathon battery life make the Milton especially well suited to commuting and air travel.

Cable quality was criticized because the supplied analog cable was viewed as thin and underbuilt for expensive travel headphones.

The USB-C-to-3.5mm cable is rugged and well finished, and one reviewer called it exceptional. The short USB-C charging/audio cable drew strong criticism for being impractical.

Ear cup rotation was viewed positively because the rotation felt smoother and contributed to a sturdier fit.

The cups fold inward but do not rotate fully flat. That is compact enough for most bags but awkward in very slim storage.

Stability was limited because the headphones stayed usable for walking but not more active movement.

Despite a relaxed clamp, the headphones remain secure during normal use and distribute their low weight evenly.

Volume output drew caution because reviewers said the headphones were quieter than some competitors even though usable listening remained possible.

The Milton gets comfortably loud well below maximum output. Pushing to the limit is unnecessary and can introduce slight harshness.

Sustainability and repairability evidence was limited and mixed, with praise for paper/cardboard-forward packaging but a call for better retail hangers.

Repairability is exceptional: the battery, ear pads, and several other parts can be replaced by the owner. This is one of the strongest long-term reasons to choose the Milton.

Portability was mixed because the case and non-folding design were criticized despite some travel-friendly organization.

The foldable, lightweight form is highly portable and can fit in small bags or even large pockets. Two reviewers note that the cups do not fold flat, making slim-bag storage awkward.

Premium feel was mixed: one reviewer missed the more premium older build, while another found the textured case and fabric experience high-end.

Brass accents, textured surfaces, and solid construction make the Milton look and feel more expensive than typical on-ears.

Transparency mode was usable but not a standout, with reviewers calling it serviceable while criticizing it as less natural or less crisp than leading alternatives.

Transparency mode is useful and mostly natural for conversations and awareness. Some reviewers hear a slightly occluded top end, extra wind, or less-than-crystal-clear passthrough.

Water and sweat resistance was a weakness because the review advised against wearing them in the rain.

The lack of an official IP water or sweat rating is a repeated weakness. Light rain may be tolerated, but workouts, heavy sweat, and downpours are risky.

Headband adjustability was praised for fitting comfortably and adjusting easily.

The highly adjustable headband accommodates different head sizes and helps users position the cups more comfortably.

Multi-platform compatibility was positive because the wired and wireless options helped across work and casual listening.

Pairing and playback work smoothly across phones, tablets, laptops, iOS, and Android, making the Milton easy to move between daily devices.

Preset EQ quality was positive where discussed, especially the podcast preset's ability to improve midrange balance.

The included presets are serviceable rather than exceptional. Reviewers often preferred building a custom EQ to fix the stock tuning.

The discreet profile was a plus for one reviewer who preferred the understated, normal-looking design.

The design is recognizable and lifestyle-oriented but still understated enough to avoid feeling gimmicky.

Connectivity options were strongly praised, especially the mix of Bluetooth, analog, USB-C, and practical fallback listening modes.

Wired USB-C, USB-C-to-3.5mm, Bluetooth, LDAC, and multipoint provide excellent connection flexibility across travel and desk setups.

Treble was mostly viewed as clear and energetic, with praise for shimmer and accuracy tempered by notes about forwardness, sizzle, or slight harshness for sensitive listeners.

Treble is usually detailed and controlled, with several reviewers praising the lack of harshness. Two tests found the upper mids and highs overly bright or close to sibilant.

Android compatibility was positive because aptX and aptX HD were described as more consistent on Android devices.

The Marshall app works on both Android and iOS, giving both platforms access to sound and ANC customization.

Built-in DAC and wired playback were praised because wired mode tightened and improved bass compared with wireless.

USB digital audio is driver-free, near-zero latency, and slightly clearer and more resolved than Bluetooth, making it useful for computers and production work.

Included accessories were praised for adding a hard case, cable, and airplane adapter convenience.

The pouch and USB-C-to-3.5mm cable make the package practical for travel and wired sources. The overly short USB-C cable is the main accessory complaint.

Instrument separation was a recurring strength, with reviewers noting resolving performance, spatial separation, and distinct instruments, though one comparison found stronger separation elsewhere.

Instrument separation is consistently good, especially over wired playback. It is clear enough for complex music, though not at top audiophile level.

USB-C was praised as a meaningful listening option that gives users another practical way to use the headphones.

USB-C audio is a major strength, providing simple, low-latency wired playback and often clearer, punchier sound than Bluetooth. It can also charge during digital use.

Case quality was usually praised for protection, structure, compartments, and compactness compared with certain rivals, despite one note that it is large.

The drawstring pouch is useful, compact, and sometimes described as premium. It protects against basic bumps but is not a rigid travel case.

Midrange reactions were mixed: some reviewers heard clean vocals and exceptional reproduction, while others found the mids less rich, blunted, or not the main strength.

Vocals and instruments are generally clear, but the default tuning can recess the mids. EQ helps restore presence for acoustic music and speech.

Detachable cable convenience was positive because the wired option kept the headphones usable across different work and casual listening situations.

The detachable USB-C-to-3.5mm cable makes it easy to switch between wireless and legacy wired sources without carrying a permanently attached lead.

Overall recommendation was positive across many reviews, especially for sound, comfort, features, battery, and value, with caveats around ANC, calls, and newer tech.

The overall recommendation is strongly positive for commuters, travelers, Marshall fans, and listeners who want premium on-ear features. Buyers sensitive to on-ear pressure or seeking over-ear isolation should be cautious.

Ear cup padding was praised for being soft, comfortable, and accommodating without making the headphones feel insecure.

The larger memory-foam ear pads are usually praised as soft, plush, and much improved over the Major V. One reviewer’s ear shape and piercings made the small square cups extremely uncomfortable.

Maximum-volume clarity was positive in the one supporting review, which said the headphones still sounded great even at max volume.

The Milton stays composed at high output, with balance and percussion generally intact. One reviewer heard a small amount of harshness only at absolute maximum volume.

Award recognition was strong in TechRadar's evidence, which noted the headphones became its headphones of the year for 2022.

The Milton received an Editors’ Choice award for its comfort, battery life, sound, ANC, and repairable design.

Setup simplicity was criticized in one video because the app onboarding had too many pop-ups and needed streamlining.

Initial setup and pairing are straightforward, with Fast Pair and a clean single-screen app interface reducing friction.

Smart Pause performance was positive in the review that said the app-enabled features worked as advertised.

Smart Pause is effectively unavailable because there is no wear detection. Playback must be paused manually when the headphones are removed.

Button usability was criticized because the power/Bluetooth button made powering on feel finicky.

Marshall’s brass joystick is one of the product’s most universally praised features. It is tactile, responsive, easy to find, and simpler than touch gestures.

Bluetooth was marked down in one 2025 review because the hardware was described as older compared with newer Bluetooth developments.

Bluetooth setup is consistently fast and painless, helped by modern pairing features. Reviewers connected phones and computers without notable trouble.

Bluetooth version was criticized as feeling older in the context of newer wireless standards.

Bluetooth 6.0, LE Audio, and Auracast give the Milton unusually strong future readiness, though some capabilities are still developing.

Call quality was inconsistent, ranging from usable in some cases to disappointing when background noise interfered or when walking and biking were considered.

Call quality varies substantially: some tests found speech crystal clear, while others heard robotic, scratchy, or unnatural voices. Intelligibility is generally maintained.

Voice prompts and feedback were criticized for inconsistent verbal and musical cues that made status feedback less clear.

The headphones lack a spoken battery-level announcement and do not clearly identify connected devices by voice, forcing users to check the app.

The app was broadly praised as intuitive, useful, and clean, with strong access to EQ, ANC, device management, and other settings.

The Marshall Bluetooth app is widely praised for clear organization and genuinely useful controls. Minor drawbacks include loading hiccups, pairing reports, and cumbersome EQ comparisons.

EQ customization was a strength, with reviewers praising useful app EQ, many options, and accurate frequency adjustment.

The five-band EQ is effective at taming excess bass, recessed mids, or bright treble. Fine-tuning is useful, though the missing reset and zero markers make experimentation less convenient.

Advanced software features were a major strength, with reviewers praising app-based personalization, Sound Zones, and feature execution.

The software suite is unusually deep for on-ear headphones, with ANC adjustment, Soundstage, adaptive loudness, battery preservation, timers, and customizable controls.

Smart listening features were praised through Sound Zones, which one reviewer found useful and effective in real testing.

Adaptive ANC, adaptive loudness, Soundstage, Find My, battery preservation, and programmable controls create an unusually complete smart-feature package.

Sustainability materials were mixed, with paper/cardboard-forward packaging praised but retail packaging improvements suggested.

A large share of recycled material gives the construction meaningful sustainability credentials rather than a token eco claim.

Durability evidence was mixed: one review called the plastic build not especially rugged, while another long-use video said the headphones still looked pristine.

The self-healing earcup finish resists minor scratches and scuffs, supporting better cosmetic durability over time.

Design reactions were mixed: reviewers liked the functional, understated approach but also called it plain or less original than prior Momentum models.

The textured faux leather, brass accents, and exposed-wire details create an elegant, instantly recognizable Marshall look. One reviewer strongly criticized the square earcup design for poor ergonomics.

Weight comfort was positive in one review, which found the headphones relatively light despite being near 293 grams.

At roughly 200 grams, the headphones feel exceptionally light and distribute their weight well. This is one of the most consistent comfort advantages.

Clamping force was consistently positive, with reviewers saying it was gentle, balanced, or just right rather than overly tight.

Clamp is generally secure without excessive pressure, and several reviewers found it gentler than typical on-ears. Glasses and very long sessions can still produce pressure.

Comfort was one of the strongest areas, with many reviewers praising long-wear comfort, soft padding, lighter feel, glasses compatibility, and all-day listening.

Most reviewers find these among the most comfortable on-ear headphones, with low weight and soft pads enabling long sessions. Fit remains subjective: a few felt pressure after hours, and one reviewer found the small square cups unusable.

Build quality was positive in the supporting review, especially the smoother, sturdier-feeling ear cup mechanism.

Build quality is consistently praised as sturdy, substantial, and well made. Metal mechanisms, a flexible headband, and durable textured surfaces inspire confidence.

Multipoint was useful when working well, but reliability was mixed because one review reported seamless switching while another saw glitches near previously paired devices.

Multipoint is a standout success, switching smoothly between two phones or across phone, tablet, and computer setups.

Codec support was praised as a strong, price-appropriate list, despite separate criticism elsewhere about missing LDAC and newer lossless Bluetooth options.

Codec coverage is unusually broad, including AAC, SBC, LC3, and LDAC for flexible use across devices.

Value for money was a major strength, with reviewers repeatedly describing the Momentum 4 as a bargain, steal, or high-value alternative to pricier rivals.

Most reviewers consider the price fair or excellent given the comfort, battery, ANC, and repairability. Some still see $230 as expensive for on-ears, especially when discounted over-ear alternatives are available.

Auto on/off reliability was mixed, with one reviewer disabling it due to misfires while another found auto-off consistent.

Configurable auto-off timers help prevent idle drain. One reviewer also observed brief adaptive-ANC dropouts, suggesting some power or mode behavior still needs refinement.

Charging was viewed positively because a short charge can deliver several hours of playback.

Quick charging is excellent: a 15-minute USB-C charge provides about 9.5 hours of playback, enough for a commute or workday.

Battery life was the product's clearest consensus strength, with reviewers repeatedly describing 49-60 hour results as exceptional, class-leading, or nearly worry-free.

Battery life is the clearest consensus strength, repeatedly lasting around 50 hours with ANC and up to 80 hours without it. Multiple reviewers went a week or more without charging.

Audio-video sync was praised in the video review that found audio and video perfectly aligned.

Bluetooth 6.0 and LE Audio provide a strong foundation for future features, but parts of the ecosystem remain immature.

Auracast support is promising but remains beta and receiver-only, with device compatibility still limited.

A report of occasional left-right imbalance adds a minor reliability concern, although cleaning or a forced reset may correct it.

The Milton launches with a notably complete feature set, adding adaptive ANC and advanced codecs to Marshall’s compact on-ear format.

Apple Find My and Google Find Hub support make misplaced headphones easier to locate across both major phone ecosystems.

Auracast and LE Audio have room to expand through future updates, but current beta limitations mean buyers are partly relying on Marshall’s roadmap.

Glasses compatibility is split: the pads can avoid pressing directly on frames, but firm clamp may cause pressure after about an hour.

Overall satisfaction is high, with several reviewers adopting the Milton as a daily favorite. The major dissent comes from one reviewer whose ears did not fit the small square cups.

The ear pads are easy to remove and replace, and cross-generation compatibility adds uncommon long-term convenience.

Replaceable pads and other serviceable components reduce waste and make worn parts easier to renew instead of replacing the entire headset.

The missing wear sensor is one of the product’s clearest feature gaps, leaving users without automatic pause when the headphones come off.

Sidetone was praised by TechRadar for improving call handling and making conversations feel more natural.

Spotify Tap provides a convenient double-press shortcut when users want instant music without browsing.

Touch controls were divisive: several reviewers found them intuitive and dependable, while others reported sensitivity, accidental inputs, or startup glitches.

The absence of Dolby Atmos and head tracking disappoints reviewers who expect full spatial-audio support at this price.

The solid-metal folding mechanism feels more substantial and durable than the pronged hinge design used on the Major V.
